Hunches Versus Math In Video Poker: The Real Score
April 27th, 2009Let’s face it: a large part of human nature is going by our hunches to some degree or another, and this certainly applies to video poker as well. Of course the extent by which video poker players follow their hunches varies by quite a lot from person to person, but we all have relied on that little nagging voice in the back of our heads from time to time…yes, even longtime video poker players, who by all reckoning should really know better.
While we are not here to tell you to totally disregard your hunches, you should at least be aware that there is a far more consistent means to win in video poker and that is simply by going with the math. What does math have to do with video poker? Don’t whip out your calculators or brush up on your high school algebra skills just yet. The secret lies in careful analysis of the paytables, which will clearly show you the financial return and theoretical odds of winning a particular game.
Of course just like anything in gambling, nothing is a sure thing. One thing you can be certain of however is that learning to reads the odds will offer you a better chance of winning at video poker than merely playing your hunches.
